VISION & VALUES

  • When Jesus said he would build a church in Matthew 16:18 he was referencing the public square. He was imagining his followers gathered in the center of the city to worship him and announce his good news. Fellow Citizens gatherings are invitations for all of Denver to gather to hear God’s Word, sing about his glory and goodness, and receive from the table of grace. Furthermore, we encourage and equip our members to engage their public life - work, social networks, places of influence and neighborhoods - as a committed follower of Jesus.

  • We are a local expression of the family of God, not formed on the basis of ancestry, DNA, or common interests, but on the shared blood of Jesus Christ. As brothers and sisters in God’s household, we are a community that is rooted, committed, merciful, diverse, generous, hospitable, welcoming, lamenting, and rejoicing.

  • We are relentlessly optimistic about how a Holy Spirit empowered church can bring restoration, healing, and hope in Denver. This means being a church that looks beyond an introverted concern for ourselves and begins to participate in cultural engagement, acts of service to vulnerable population groups, and investment in the common good of the city.

  • We believe there is power in a church that is rooted in the depth, mystery, and continuity of the historic church while making it accessible and highly invitational to modern people in Denver. We look to the past while closely observing the present. The result is building a fresh movement that translates the historic Christian faith to our modern culture.

  • Following Jesus in a deeply secular context like Denver takes resilience and courage. We grow as disciples through transformative communion with God. We access God’s life-giving presence by rehearsing the story of the gospel in the sacraments, worship, prayer, Scripture, fasting, and sabbath.

  • We celebrate ordinary faithfulness to Jesus in everyday life. God blesses our simple and humble acts of obedience and devotion. At the same time, God’s Spirit has been poured out on the church for mighty acts of power. We will pray and expect the Holy Spirit to move supernaturally through us in Denver to glorify God and grow his Kingdom.
